California Independent Study


Overview:

In this unit, we will be exploring the history of California. We will be examining the history, geography, culture and life in this great state.

 

Purpose:

            The purpose of this unit is to create a detailed presentation about a state that is not familiar to you. It will also give you the opportunity to have a presentation to a real audience.

Expectations:During this study you will be creating a formal presentation explaining your research in a PowerPoint presentation to other students, teachers, and faculty.

You will be conferencing with Mr. Shoemaker during the process of your research and making the multimedia presentation. You must conference at least TWO times during the making of your multimedia

Multimedia

Multimedia that you will be creating must be related to the research that you did on California, and can come in several different forms:

  • PowerPoint
  • Facts Chart
  • Timeline
  • Speech
  • Biography /story
  • Advertisement
  • Editorial

Requirements

  • Informational

You must cover at least 15 of the topics included in the list of possibilities.

Multimedia Project : California

Organization Content is well organized using headings or bulleted lists to group related material. Uses headings or bulleted lists to organize, but the overall organization of topics appears flawed. Content is logically organized for the most part. There was no clear or logical organizational structure, just lots of facts.
Content Covers topic in-depth with details and examples. Subject knowledge is excellent. Includes essential knowledge about the topic. Subject knowledge appears to be good. Includes essential information about the topic but there are 1-2 factual errors. Content is minimal OR there are several factual errors.

Originality Product shows a large amount of original thought. Ideas are creative and inventive. Product shows some original thought. Work shows new ideas and insights. Presentation Well-rehearsed with smooth delivery that holds audience attention. Rehearsed with fairly smooth delivery that holds audience attention most of the time. Delivery not smooth, but able to maintain interest of the audience most of the time. Delivery not smooth and audience attention often lost.
